A NEW school is nearing its admission deadline for pupils wanting to enrol.

Sparkwell All Saints Primary School has given a closing date of January 15 for parents and carers to enrol their children.

The school in Sparkwell village, due to open in September, has advised applications be made as soon as possible as places are limited.

The new school has also begun its statutory consultation exercise to secure community backing – designs and plans for the school are being drawn up and will be shown to the community for comment.

Recently appointed headteacher Colin Doctor said: "Children learn best while they are having fun.

"Our plans for the school have been warmly welcomed by the community and prospective parents.

"However, we still need to gather more feedback, and this is the time for community members and parents to have their say with the planning of the new school.

"The statutory consultation questionnaires are a legal requirement, which involve the local community giving feedback upon a proposed community project.

"It allows people to voice positive or constructive concerns about the plans."
