MUSIC idol David Bowie (above) broke years of silence and speculation yesterday to release his first new single in a decade – with an album to follow.

The star, who shot to fame in the late '60s with Space Oddity, surprised fans by suddenly releasing a new recording, Where Are We Now? on his 66th birthday. The track appeared on iTunes with the accompanying video premiering on his website.

THE spectre of annual above-inflation fare rises until the end of the decade hung over £37.5 billion plans unveiled to run and expand the railways.

Network Rail (NR) said its plans assumed the annual RPI inflation plus one per cent formula would be in place throughout 2014 to 2019.

There was further discouraging news for passengers when NR announced its trains-on-time target for 2014-19 would not be an improvement on the 2009-14 target of 92.5 per cent which it is failing to meet.

HIGHLIGHTS from the London 2012 Olympics have notched up a new record to become the best-selling sport DVD.

    “This is really terrible editing. I've scanned through a few articles this afternoon, found most of them boring and ended up here as an article about David Bowie caught my eye.

    What I actually found was;

    A few lines about David Bowie
    A few lines about Network Rail
    and One line about the Olympics on DVD

    All squashed into one article, with no titles, no separation, nothing to suggest they are actually 3 different stories.

    There's no picture of Bowie, even though you've referenced it in the article.

    You spelt 'specter' wrong (unless you mean The Spectre from the comic books?)

    This really is lazy writing, poor editing and a terrible layout. Bad effort @Ian_Wood”
