New year, new job for Andy – but others still searching

IT WAS a good start to 2013 for Get Hired hopeful Andy Frood when he found work at the new call centre in Honicknowle.

The 40-year-old, from Staddiscombe, started work last week with the Money Group, at the firm's Burrington Way base.

Andy, a former cinema projectionist, was delighted, and thanked The Herald for featuring him in the Get Hired campaign – and helping him land the job.

And he became the latest Get Hired candidate to find employment or training.

Among them is Michael Connors, from Keyham, who landed a seven-week paid job at a major city retailer during the Christmas trading period.

Liane Cvetanovic, from Ford, started a clothing business after moving onto the Enterprise Allowance scheme.

And window fitter Luke Male went from living in his car to having a roof over his head, after New View Windows, in Saltash, offered him work.

Paul Farley, from Torpoint, landed a post helping to deliver the new qualification in dance, music and media at his old school, Torpoint Community College.

Robert Davies, from Ham Drive, found a part-time paid job at the Pluss bed-making factory in Honicknowle.

James Ranger, from Tamerton Foliot, is working on starting a business repairing mobile phones.

And Keira Robinson, from South Brent, has started a forensic science course at City College Plymouth.

The Herald also revealed how 19-year-old Rachel Cox, from Ivybridge, received a slew of potential job offers after appealing for a placement to help her towards a career in event management.

But she's still looking for further placements, while some of our other Get Hired crew are still at the start line.

So the call is going out to Plymouth firms, big and small, to see if they can help.

Our list includes John Heslop, a former TV repairman from Stonehouse, who has now been jobless for two years.

Meanwhile, Stella Murray, from North Prospect, is determined to get back into employment, particularly in retail – and has been taking part in IT courses in preparation.

Daniel Hale, from Whitleigh, has GCSEs and qualifications in catering and IT, but has been jobless for five years.

Adrian Ward, from Higher Compton, has been writing to city employers – in batches of 30.

The 26-year-old has GCSEs, NVQs, IT and business qualifications and has held admin and office jobs before.

And Marc Du feu, from Stonehouse, has been brushing up on his maths and English skills, because he is so keen to get back into employment after years in work.
