VETERANS, their families and friends have helped to raise £1,300 for servicemen and women injured in action.

The St Budeaux branch of the Royal British Legion organised and hosted the evening event in aid of the national charity Help For Heroes.

Live music, a raffle, bingo, card horse- racing and a quiz were just some of the events on the night.

A spokesman for the event said: "We were overwhelmed by the level of support and generosity of those people who contributed to the night.

"It was a fantastic amount to raise and we're delighted."

The spokesman said organisers wished to thank the countless city businesses which donated prizes for the raffle, those who provided the live music and everyone who turned out on the evening.

Help For Heroes was launched in October 2007 in response to the desire of ordinary people to do something practical to help wounded servicemen and women.
