NINA Jackson celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday in Paignton by going for her regular swim.

The amazingly fit centenarian admitted: “I don't feel anything like 100.”

She celebrated her century with a swim, party and dinner with family.

She said: “I'd live it all again if I could. It's an achievement.”

Nina's secret to a long and healthy life is to: “Keep going, have plenty of fresh air and exercise, eat well and try not to worry.

“I go walking every day, I read a lot and do as many crosswords as I can.”

Nina tries to swim as often as possible, she goes three or four times a week.

She has made many friends going swimming but thinks the closest other regular swimmer to her in age is about 15 years younger.

Nina passed her driving test 62 years ago, in 1946, the same year Tupperware was first sold, and has driven many much-loved Austin 1100s.

“I went to my wedding in a white 1100,” she said.

Nina added: “I had a very happy married life.”

In 1967, at 61 years old, Nina married husband George, who died in 1999.

They knew each other for 20 years before getting married but Nina cared for her mother after her father died.

She didn't want to leave her mother and didn't marry George until her mother had died.

Nina has enjoyed all of her 100 years and has seen life change dramatically since she was born.

The year Nina was born pony and traps were commonplace and asphalt had only just been discovered.
