POLICE and trading standards officers have stepped in and seized thousands of leaflets in Teignmouth.

The leaflets asked Teignmouth residents to leave out goods for collection to be donated to the poor in developing countries.

A spokesman for Devon trading standards said: "A van was stopped in Teignmouth and thousands of leaflets were seized when officers suspected the information they contained was misleading.

"Further investigations are now underway."

The leaflets asked for donations of clothes, jewellery and mobile phones and came from W&W Help Ltd.

Companies House confirmed W&W Help Ltd had been dissolved on Monday March 24 — before the collection date.

W&W Help Ltd has headquarters in North Woolwich, London.

No one was available for comment at the company.
