IF you are indecisive or enjoy widening your options then a new restaurant offers perfect choice on a plate.

The recently opened Ming Dynasty, on the site of the former Billacombe Tavern, has brought together both Japanese and Chinese dishes under one roof.

The transformation to Oriental restaurant was completed over several months before The Ming Dynasty officially opened on June 1 with every table booked.

The mood, when you step inside, is one of relaxed sophistication. The eating area has been lushly carpeted and the flooring raised so people can make the most of the windows while they eat. The restaurant has a contemporary feel and aims to present the best in eating in an environment where attention to detail clearly matters.

Japanese and Chinese lanterns help set the scene while you chose from the mouthwatering menu. And now, as well as being open evenings seven days a week, The Ming Dynasty is open lunchtimes between noon and 2.30pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Anyone keen to sample the lunchtime fare can enjoy a set three course meal for £10.99. There will be up to ten choices of aperitif, main course and desert in Japanese, Chinese or mixed – and the menu is changed regularly.

Tables are placed at either end of the spacious premises – with a beverages bar and sushi bar (with boards displaying descriptions of the food) between.

Manager Teresa Zhu says customers are welcome to come in for a drink or a meal. She says the Ming Dynasty is one of the most impressive and spacious Japanese and Chinese restaurants in Devon, capable of seating between 80 and 100 customers. There is an enclosed space between the two main eating areas which can be separated as a 'VIP' area seating a party of up to 12. There is private parking and disabled entry.

A lot of people are familiar with Japanese food but Teresa says there is still a misunderstanding that sushi means raw fish.

The menu includes such sushi delights as cooked eel, sweet corn, egg, crispy seaweed and cooked salmon.

"Sushi doesn't have to be raw. We want to get people to try it because if you don't you will never know if you like it or not," said Teresa.

"Lots of people do like Japanese food – some customers come just for that. But not everyone knows we have a Japanese restaurant here."

Ming Dynasty is run by the same company that owns Ming Chinese Restaurant within the Old Mother Hubbard's Cottage at Yealmpton.

The new restaurant on Billacombe Road is ideally positioned for people looking for a good meal in attractive surroundings. Easily located on the dual carriageway it has ample parking with some 40 spaces.

With locally sourced fish and vegetables Ming Dynasty prides itself on serving smartly presented quality food prepared on the premises. With the coupon on this page you can get a 10 percent reduction – so why not give it a try?

“Had a lovely Fathers Day lunch at Ming Dynasty, Plymstock. The menu was wide and varied and staff were very helpful to customers who had not experienced Japanese cuisine before. The setting is nice and quiet and very accessible. Good luck with your new venture Teresa - we hope Plymouth take the sushi adventure.”
