Oyster event is a pearl of a day
PLYMOUTH'S Waterfront restaurant is preparing for this weekend's Oyster Fest, one of the highlights of the Plymouth Summer Festival and a huge success last year.
The celebration marks the start of the oyster season, with a mouth-watering recipe of Guinness, award- winning Bigbury Bay oysters and live music from some of the region's finest bands.

THE SHELLFISH GENE: Kelly Bowen enjoys some oysters with champagne at the inaugural Oysterfest at the Waterfront restaurant
The Waterfront Restaurant and Bar, on Plymouth's Grand Parade, West Hoe, is hosting its second annual free festival on Saturday between noon and 8.30pm.
A host of bands will be performing on the restaurant's outdoor waterside decking while oysters a-plenty will be washed down with the perfect accompaniments: St Austell Brewery's Tribute bitter or Guinness. A barbecue will serve up the Waterfront's ever-popular lobsters as well as a full menu of other delicious dishes.
Musicians lined up to play Oysterfest include Nick the Fish, Black Jack Davey, Mad Dog McRae, Shoot the Crow and Eat The Rich.
Owner Steve Bowen said: "Last year our Oysterfest was such a roaring success that we're pleased to now regard it as an institution.
"Our oyster supplier had the busiest day of his life last year and we intend to make him work even harder this year!"
