TONIA COUCH'S appeal against her Olympic snub is still hanging in the balance, despite support for the international Plymouth diving star growing daily.

European synchro champion with fellow Plymothian Sarah Barrow, Couch finds herself at the centre of a selection row which has infuriated her Team GB coach Andy Banks and now 800 Herald readers who have all signed a petition in protest. Couch's place in the individual 10m platform for the London Games went to Yorkshire's Monique Gladding, who finished behind the 23-year-old at the Olympic trials.

The decision to drop Couch was made by GB diving chief Alexei Evangulov, with Banks lodging an appeal on his diver's behalf, which is being reviewed under Fast Track system.

When contacted by The Herald yesterday, British Swimming's communications chief Dave Richards said: "The appeal won't be resolved today. We will obviously announce (a decision) as soon as we can."
