PGSOB stormed up to second in men's regional N4 Hockey League Premier Division Three following a 3-2 cross-city derby victory over University of Plymouth.

PGs made the most of the top of the table clash between West Wilts and Torbay being postponed to leapfrog above the two promotion chasers and into second spot, three points behind leaders Plymouth Marjon A.

Marcus Haes, Dave Essex and Barry Kirkham scored for PGs, who visit fifth-placed Cardiff & UWIC next Saturday bidding for their ninth league win of the season.

University of Plymouth remain seventh.

Promotion favourites Plymouth Marjon maintained top spot with a comfortable 5-1 home win over basement side Yeovil & Sherborne despite trailing to an early goal from a deflected penalty corner strike and against the run of play.

Plymouth rallied to lead 3-1 at the break with goals from Joe Toulson (2) and Rhys Hart.

Tom Honey and Rich Hislop scored to complete a confidence-boosting win after three weeks of not being able to get in any pitch practice due to the big freeze.

The winter weather caused the postponement of Plymouth Marjon's Saturday trip to Salisbury in West Clubs Women's League Premier One and means another re-arrangement for Hannah Martin's team, whose home game against Redland on January 9 was snowed off.

Plymouth Marjon seconds lost 3-1 at unbeaten South Division leaders Newquay. Donna McCormick scored for Plymouth.

Second-placed Caradon suffered their second defeat of the season, 2-0 at Sidmouth, while Plym Valley lost 7-2 at home to Isca seconds and resurgent Tavistock won 2-1 at Dart.

Promotion favourites Newquay now have a three-point advantage over second-placed Isca seconds and third-placed Caradon with a match in hand.

In men's South Division One, basement side Tavistock were beaten 4-1 at Bridgwater.

In South Two, OPM maintained their promotion push by winning a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at basement side Torbay A after trailing 3-0 in 20 minutes.

Victory keeps second-placed OPM tucked in two points behind leaders University of Exeter C and three points ahead of third-placed Dart.

Laurence Peacock and Martin Simpson-Scott (2) restored parity by half time.

OPM skipper Alex Peacock sandwiched a superb Torbay goal – which made it 4-4 – with two clinically finished short corner strikes.

Club captain Jason Sweby said: "We were surprised to be 3-0 down but not one of us thought the game was over.

"And once we got one goal back, everything clicked into place. That's the spirit of this team this year."

Plymouth Marjon B won 3-1 at Isca B with goals by Greg Daw and Sam Willetts (2) while 10th-placed PGSOB A lost 4-0 at fifth-placed Mid Somerset.

South West Division One leaders, University of Plymouth A, dropped their first points of the season when they were held to a 3-3 draw by fourth-placed Bude.

PGSOB B, in sixth, beat cross-city rivals United Services Plymouth 2-1 with goals from Lee Thomas and Martin Riley.

Seventh-placed Plymouth Marjon C won 5-1 at Liskeard-based Caradon.

Tom Clack scored his first hat-trick for the club with Michael Mekhael and a stunning strike from James Smith completing the scoring.

Third from bottom Tavistock A claimed a valuable 3-3 home draw with third-placed St Austell, at Kelly College.

In the Men's Masters Cup for over 40s, John Smith-inspired Plymouth Veterans swept to a 7-1 home win over Westbury on Sunday.
