Plymouth Argyle monitoring progress of on-loan striker George Donnelly
MANAGER Peter Reid has revealed Plymouth Argyle are closely monitoring the form of their on-loan striker George Donnelly at Stockport County.
Donnelly has scored three goals in six games for the League Two club at the start of this season.

And, after adding to his tally in Stockport's 2-0 away win against Macclesfield Town on Saturday, the 22-year-old admitted he wanted to complete a permanent move.
Reid has not spoken to Donnelly since he signed on loan for Stockport at the end of July, but is being kept up-to-date on his progress.
"The reason George went out on loan was to get games and I'm glad he's doing well," the Argyle manager told Herald Sport. "We are monitoring him and some of the reports on him have been very good."
Reid would not be drawn, however, on Donnelly's comments about wanting to stay with Stockport beyond the end of his loan, which continues until December 31.
"We will cross that bridge if we reach it," he said.
Donnelly, 22, spent the final three months of last season on loan to Stockport and netted four times in 19 appearances as County finished bottom of League One.
Paul Simpson succeeded Gary Ablett as their manager over the summer and was keen to take Donnelly back to Edgeley Park.
That decision seems to have been vindicated by Donnelly's fine start to the season.
Donnelly said: "I would definitely love to stay here.
"I'm really happy at the club and, hopefully, we will be able to make it happen.
"I would imagine that if I don't stay I would be looking to move on anyway as I can't see myself going back to Plymouth.
"Hopefully, they can sort something out with Stockport so that I can stay."
Donnelly added: "I was glad to get the chance to come back because I enjoyed my time here last season and I know a lot of the lads here.
"It's just great to be at a club where I feel really wanted and, more importantly, to be getting games and being involved every day."
Donnelly was signed by Argyle from Lancashire part-timers Skelmersdale United in March 2009.
He made two substitute appearances for the Pilgrims at the end of that season, but has not featured for them at first team level since then.
Donnelly has a contract with Argyle until next summer.
An Argyle XI containing several first team squad members will play a friendly away to Newton Abbot Spurs at the Recreation Ground tonight (7.30pm).
Strikers Steve MacLean and Bradley Wright-Phillips, as well as midfielder Anton Peterlin and defender Marcel Seip, are all expected to be involved.
Spurs are in Division One East of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League.
Seip has yet to feature in a matchday squad for any of Argyle's four League One games this season.
Reid insisted the Dutch defender, who has had a troubled recent past with the Pilgrims, had to prove to him he should be in the first team.
So the onus is on him to put in a good display against Spurs, for example.
"If he (Seip) plays well in games he's picked for he has got a chance of getting in, like anybody else," said Reid.
"I have spoken to him about that."
Meanwhile, Reid is continuing with his attempts to recruit a striker, with Football League clubs allowed to make 'emergency loan' signings as from tomorrow.
He is keeping his cards close to his chest, however. "I'm working on it all the time," said the Pilgrims' boss.
When asked whether he hoped to add a new striker before Argyle's away game against Colchester United on Saturday, Reid replied: "I'm always optimistic."
ARGYLE'S Johnstone's Paint Trophy second round tie away to Cheltenham Town will be played on Tuesday, October 5 (7.45pm).
Admission will cost £10 for adults and £5 for over-65s and NUS students. It will be free for under-16s.
Tickets will be available from the turnstiles.

“They all do better elsewhere - Mackie, Easter, Barnes, Donnelly, Zebroski, Puncheon, Noone and MacLean (when out on loan) etc. So the lack of creativity in midfield must be to blame. As Rob says, Summerfield is the most creative but the venomous unappreciative sectiojn of the HP crowd get on his back after one mistake thus hindering his development.”

“We do need an experienced greedy, knock your granny over for a goal type in the mould of Kevin Phillips sadly with our finances we could afford Lesley Phillips !
We also have a forward passing and thinking midfield player in Summers, even at the top level this type of player has holding or enforcing players around them. No, we either expect them to tackle like a demented Savage and have a passing range of a Hoddle, if not we moan and pour scorn on our own players. Still when and there is bound to be one, he comes back and scores against us, as is the way with our 'released' players we can all say WE SHOULD NEVER HAVE LET HIM GO TYPICAL ARGYLE !”

“Creative midfielder yes, absolutely agree. George Donnelly is (apart from Joe Mason) probably the most hungriest striker on argyle's books. Has tremendous ability & presence, but I don't think we av learnt the 'Puncheon' lesson yet. No argyle manager will give them a chance, they would prefer to stick with the 'famous' names. These characters who av been given numerous chances, but delivered nothing. About Patterson, 2 appearances 1 goal, sounz like the best record yet. Let's admit it they all played crap against Peterborough, esp the goalie and I bet he'll be bak in the team again against Colchester. Think ppl who write here are mostly barking up the wrong tree, but creative midfielder yes...please”

“David - completely agree with you. We lack a creative midfielder or two who can put his foot on the ball and open up a defence.
Its all well and good saying Donnelly might score given the chance. The fact is that proven strikers aren't scoring because they aren't getting service so why would he. Personally I would stick with Maclean and BWP as they are the most likely to score with a decent service. Saw Patterson against Peterborough and he clearly isn't anywhere near the level required and Mason didn't have it either.”
