PM records chapter for Big Read

DAVID Cameron has given his backing to two major literary projects being launched in Plymouth this weekend.

The Prime Minister recorded a chapter for the Moby-Dick Big Read, which will be launched tomorrow afternoon on the Hoe, at the first Plymouth International Book Festival. He joins the likes of Sir David Attenborough, Stephen Fry, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tilda Swinton in backing the project, which aims to introduce the 161-year-old novel to a new generation of fans.

Speaking about his involvement, Mr Cameron said: "I am delighted to be able to support the Plymouth International Book Festival in this way, participating in the Moby-Dick Big Read. This is a really exciting project aimed at introducing this literary masterpiece to new audiences, both in the maritime city of Plymouth and much farther afield."

The Moby-Dick Big Read has been two years in the making, and is the brainchild of the award-winning author Dr Philip Hoare, artist-in-residence at Plymouth University's Marine Institute, and the acclaimed artist Angela Cockayne, from Bath Spa University. It is hosted by Peninsula Arts at Plymouth University. It will be launched with a live reading by actor Simon Callow during an event in Plymouth University's Graduation Marquee on the Hoe, tomorrow afternoon.
