Parents excited by city's first free school
PARENTS have given the thumbs up to Plymouth's first free school.
They gave their approval to the prospect of the new school following the latest Plymouth School of Creative Arts open day to meet the newly appointed headteacher.

The school – for children aged 4 to 16 – has appointed Dave Strudwick as headteacher, a former head of Blackawton School, near Totnes, and on Saturday parents had the chance to meet him and ask questions.

"I think it's a good idea and I like that this will take him right through to when he's 16-years-old."
Sara Welsh, from Stoke, agreed.
Her son is four years old and will be aged five when he starts at the school.
Ms Welsh said: "I've already enrolled my son. We are a home schooling family because I don't like the prospect of any schools in Plymouth but this is the most exciting thing I've ever seen here.
"It's really good for our city and it's so great to see."
Headteacher Mr Strudwick said: "It has been a brilliant day to introduce myself and meet prospective parents.
"We're really excited about the bright future this school has and how we will encourage children to be the best they can be."
Plymouth School of Creative Arts is a free school backed by Plymouth College of Art and funded by the Department of Education.
In September next year it will take the first group of 150 pupils: 60 in the reception year, 60 in Year 1 and 30 in Year 2.
The secondary years will open in 2014 with Year 7 and Year 8.
The school aims to provide seamless creative learning from age four in to masters level in the college.
Professor Andrew Brewerton, principal of Plymouth College of Art and director of Plymouth School of Creative Arts, said: "What we're doing will be used as a case study. Plymouth is leading the change rather than being on the receiving end of change.
"This is very rare and it's invigorating and inspiring for us as it is for parents and it's been great today to meet with more parents, answer their questions and hear their thoughts.
"We're really pleased with the progress we're making and it's full steam ahead."
In January there will be a further open day to announce the location of the school.
Negotiations are under way for the school premises, which will be announced next month.
