PARENTS have been helping their children prepare a special outdoor learning area in Compton.

Around 20 parents came along to Compton C of E primary school where they laid astro turf, hoed and dug plant beds, and one dad erected a high fence to help keep the area secure.

The event will help lay the foundations of a kids and dads project called Super Dads which will encourage reading, funded by a £9,800 lottery grant.

Vicki Watts, early years leader at the school, said in the future a summer house would be built where dads could come and help their young children learn how to read.

She said: "We want to make our outdoor area a nice place to play and learn and the parents helped, making it a really good day. It felt like a really nice community atmosphere."

She said part of the school curriculum was to provide continuous provision to an outdoor area.
