The Park and Ride service will be extended for one day on Saturday May 19 to alleviate potential traffic congestion issues and make it much easier for people to attend the torch celebrations.

The buses, which operate from three sites around the city – Coypool, Milehouse and The George – will each run longer into the evening on Saturday, giving people the opportunity to enjoy the Lords Mayor's Parade and watch the Olympic torch being brought through the city, before attending the evening celebration event on The Hoe.

There will be an extended Park and Ride service operating every 20 minutes from Coypool, Milehouse and the George Junction with the last departure from the City Centre (Royal Parade) to the George/Milehouse Park and Ride sites departing at 10.15pm, and to the Coypool site at 10.20pm.

The gates to the George Park and Ride site – the only site to have lockable gates – will be shut at 10.45pm.

Bus routes will not be able to access Royal Parade between 7pm and 9pm on Saturday.

Robbie Lamerton, General Manager for First in Devon and Cornwall, said: "We have been asked by the council to operate some additional services and we have willingly agreed. We would advise our customers – of both Park and Ride and other local bus services – to be aware of the changes to drop off and departure points of buses operating that evening, as between 7pm and 9pm our vehicles will not be able to access Royal Parade. The Park and Ride vehicles will use Mayflower Street, while other local bus services will also be diverted."

There will be no impact on the following services: Services 4, 5, 7, 15, 48, 83, 84 and 93

At 2100 hours all bus services will revert to their normal routes and stopping arrangements.

Complete timetable information for the PR1 and PR2 Park and Ride Services, as well as other local bus services can be found online at www.firstgroup.com/devon.
