Patten 'enjoyed experience' of historic Olympic race
PLYMOUTH-born swimmer Cassie Patten was involved in the
fastest 800m women's race of all-time this morning when she
-

competed in the Olympic final.
The race was won by her Great Britain team-mate and good
friend Rebecca Adlington, who broke the oldest world record in
swimming to claim her second gold medal of the Olympics.
Adlington's time was 8.14.10, which was over two seconds
inside Janet Evan's 19-year-old mark.
Patten, a specialist 10km open water swimmer, finished last
of the eight finalists, but she was just delighted to make the
final having gone into the Olympics ranked 17th in the world at
800m.
"I really enjoyed the experience," said Patten. "Just to
reach the final was great and I was so pleased for Becks. She
is a good friend of mine."
Former Plymouth College pupil Patten will be back in action
in Beijing on Wednesday when she competes in the marathon 10km
open water race - an event where she is ranked second in the
world.

“I think the Herald ought to give any credit here to the Plymouth Leander Swimming club and not Plymouth College. These fiercely commercial private schools do not miss a trick when it comes to trying to take credit for other peoples' efforts.”
