Pensioner ordered to keep Staffie muzzled
A PENSIONER has been ordered to keep his Staffordshire Bull Terrier muzzled and on a lead after it injured a dog and its owner.
A court has placed a control order on Howard Jacobs, aged 67, whose dog Taurus grabbed a border collie cross by the throat in the street.
-

Jacobs, of Wyndham Street West in Stonehouse, accepted the order after prosecutors dropped a criminal charge that he had a dangerous dog out of control which caused an injury.
Eoin McCarthy, for the Crown Prosecution Service, told Plymouth Magistrates' Court that Taurus grabbed the other dog by the throat and 'locked on'.
He added: "The dog remained in this position for some time." During the struggle to free the dog, the owner was injured to her hand.
"Both the owner and the dog were injured."
District judge Paul Farmer ordered that Taurus be kept on a lead and muzzled while in public.
He said: "On your own admission, the dog was not behaving as it should have done."
Mr Jacobs said he had already bought a muzzle.

“Hi guys, I have a staffie, two Rhodesian Ridgebacks and a little terrier. If anyone who is unsure about staffies would like to meet my little chap you are more than welcome. I firmly believe it's how dogs are brought up and how you treat them that matters. Hopefully we can change some of your minds in the process. Happy days. Mic xx”

“I couldnt fault my staffy, he plays with my 3 yr old all day everyday. if my son picks up his ball he wont take it out of his hand until he has dropped it, no matter how much he wants his ball. he knows my son is his boss and when my son gives him a treat, he takes it so slowly and gently. my son adores our dog. but i never leave them alone cus like ANY dog u never know?!!”

“Staffsquad, Prince Rock - couldn't have put it better myself I take my hat off.
I salute all fellow Staffodshire Bull Terrier owners who brought up their dogs to be quite simply cuddle machines and faithful companions!”

“Some people say that owners grow to look like their dogs.
I have always doubted this until now, Mr Jacobs illustrates this brilliantly.
All dog owners should be chipped and muzzled so that they can continue to match their mutts.”

“I have a 5year old jack russell terrrier and they are clever sensible creatures usually rather like their owners. However, I find staffies on the whole are unpredictable and the mere fact they lock their jaws prove very dangerous. Most owners of staffies are sensible but the chavvy, thick, status symbol type are more dangerous than their dogs.”

“i lived a few doors from howard and his dog taurus and my twin boys aged 2 and my youngest girl aged 4 would always play with the dog and it wouldnt even flinch. When he did see another dog he got a bit excited and howard would always do his best to keep him under control, but if the other dog walker is not willing to control theirs what do you expect will happen.”
