“@mcspredder
perhaps it could be called Ecoville
It could use wave energy to power the flats.”

“They haven't mentioned a desalination plant which could supply these new premises without adding to the risk of drought which all this new building is visiting on us with the way the weather is fluctuating.”

“the question is why should they build 'affordable' homes anyway, affordable to whom?
affordable homes make such small profit (if any) that its not sustainable to build them in great numbers. This is a private investment company with no obligation to build them other than what is required by local planning requirements.
there are some affordable homes (and i use the term lightly!) going up around stonehouse/mount wise area's available on the shared ownership scheme....are these really affordable? half the flats at the pheonix quay were bought buy a local housing association as they went unsold and at less than half price.
what is that saying...
cost is a matter of opinion, but debt is real.
oh..
and...
people will pay what they are prepared to spend, its up to the 'market forces' to make them pay more.
we can all afford different prices, i cant wait until Saltram house becomes affordable to me. :-)
sorry, back to the your original question...the companies business model is based on high quality buildings in a high quality area, affordable homes dont come into it, and we should be lucky that they are building any at all, its not as if you can make them build more...bit like carrying a donor card!”

“Lordornothing, I know all about the housing policies, I was just making a comment of 13 homes, big deal, just because it is a private company trying to placate the council doesn't mean they shouldn't have a higher proportion of affordable homes does it?”

“Be better if the became the headquarters of some multinational company bringing thousands of private sector jobs to Plymouth - imagine it - direct access to the Tamar, cruises to France and Spain on your doorstep, a marina full of employees yachts, inputting tens of millions of pounds into the local economy and buying in services from vast numbers of small local firms who wouldbe able to take on many of the 6000+ unemployed in the city.
Nah - Millbay gets some tacky flats where the paint goes green after a year and the wood fascia weathers badly”

“i went to the public presentation of this, once its all built it will look fantastic, and with the marina up to scratch it will present the city better to those who come in on the ferry. Lets hope they can get investment for the rest of it.
Trudie, your mistaking a private investment who in order to gain permission have to build cheaper homes, if you want more affordable houses lobby your MP, local council or government department for housing.
Peter...HA HA HA ha! :-)”
