ON SATURDAY, Argyle take on Barnet in a match which might go a long way in deciding whether the Pilgrims can hang on to their Football League status.

In an open letter to Herald Sport, Pilgrims president Chris Webb has issued a rallying call for Argyle fans to pack out Home Park for the League Two clash.

Webb letter says: "Argyle's match with Barnet on Saturday could be pivotal in our fight to retain Football League status this year.

"The support both home and away has this season, as always, been remarkable.

"And while Argyle are currently struggling at the bottom of League Two our support is befitting of a side at a much higher level.

"Just over a year ago players, staff, supporters, the city council and James Brent came together to rescue the club from the brink. Now that unity is needed once again.

"At the end of the season we can have a post-mortem and analysis of the 2012/13 campaign. Now is the time for everyone connected to Argyle and the city of Plymouth to get behind John Sheridan and the team.

"Plymouth as a city has suffered more than most during these difficult economic times. Against this backdrop and in recognition of the tremendous backing given by supporters, the club has drastically reduced the admission prices for the Barnet game.

"Members are able to bring two friends for just £5 each and through The Herald, children can gain free entry, while the average punter can step off the street and into Home Park for only £10.

"When full and rocking, Home Park has an atmosphere that is almost unrivalled, certainly in the lower leagues.

Barnet will arrive at Home Park looking for points in their own fight for survival.

"Let's welcome them with a cauldron of noise that inspires and lifts those in green and strikes fear into the hearts of our opponents.

"Come the last game of the season at Rochdale, we will all know the fate of our beloved football club.

"Until that point arrives we must unite and fight together.

"Let's ram that ground full this weekend and roar the Greens onto a result that will take us a step closer to retaining our League status and beginning the long climb back.

"There will be many of you reading this that have not been to Argyle for a long time.

"Maybe you were let down too many times, you can't afford it at the moment, you've fallen out of love with modern football or you simply see Argyle as a passive hobby.

"Now, more than ever, your club needs you. The 14th biggest city in the UK without a Football League club is unthinkable.

"Remember the days that made us all proud to be a Pilgrim? Villa Park, Wembley, Bristol City in 86, QPR in 2004. I wholeheartedly believe those times will come again.

"On Tuesday, amazingly, over 800 Argyle supporters (more than Real Madrid took to Barcelona on the same evening) made the long trip to AFC Wimbledon.

"The numbers, passion and noise from the Green Army is enough to bring a lump to your throat.

"I am proud to be an Argyle fan and I am proud to stand on the terraces shoulder to shoulder with the greatest supporters in the country.

"It has been a long, hard five years. Some of us have lost hope, some of us have lost interest, but none of us have lost our love for the club that has brought us so many magical moments down the years. There are 12 games left. 12 cup finals.

"See you on Saturday."

“Support is always important for a club and most serious fans go to as many matches as they can. Living away from Plymouth for the past 38 years hasn't stopped me from being "Argyle til I die" but I rely on club information from various websites. The downside of this is the continuing differences between Pasoti and ATD. When I read these forums (I belong to neither and have no intention of ever doing so), I am desperately disappointed by all the "aggro"- much of it is pathetic and some surprisingly violent verbally.

Where I do mostly agree with ATD is regarding the attempt to manufacture support. I think Forza Verde was a huge mistake as the nomenclature echoes Italian ultras who seem to encourage racism, homophobia and violence. The decoration of dull grey walls with murals is to be applauded although the choice of subjects perhaps not always the best. It comes across that there are people involved in all this who think themselves better fans than others and this attitude is to the detriment of Argyle.

It pains me to read a lot of what is on these websites. I wish every Argyle fan would see themselves as equally important and that James Brent would acknowledge the whole gamut of support by investing money into the buying of better players.

Sheridan must be in such a difficult position. We shouldn't blame him for where we are in the league; I think he is doing his best at a pretty dysfunctional club.”

“Plymtel well done for still supporting Argyle irrespective of your views with respect to certain individuals heading the management of the club. Lets all hope we survive this season and remain in league football to discuss this next season.”

“Chris Webb has projected himself into the position of club president using the support of Argyle Fans whilst Chairman of the Argyle Trust.

Despite the mismanagement of Plymouth Argyle by Mr Brent there voice of concern by this so called fan. Chris Webb has lost his credibility and longer commands the respect from Plymouth Argyle fans.

On one occasion at Home Park I asked outright why he was not voicing his concerns about the crisis at the club, he was not on evasive but damned rude.

Both Chris Webb and Peter Jones should resign from their respective positions at Argyle; they have both let themselves down. I am sure if Michael Foot was still alive he would whole heartedly agreed with me.

That said, I will be there Saturday supporting Plymouth Argyle and hoping for a win.”

“As anybody knows if you put your head above the parapit it will get shot at. That is very easy to do behind the anonymity of the intenet but whatever your views the point is to get beyond your personal views and support Argyle. Hopefully we can all do that in the interest of the club COYG.”
