Plymouth Argyle draw Cheltenham Town away in JPT round two
PLYMOUTH Argyle will play Cheltenham Town away in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Argyle will travel to the Abbey Business Stadium, Whaddon Road in the week beginning October 4.
-

The draw could have seen Argyle facing a local derby against Torquay or Exeter.
The two clubs last met on New Year's Day in 2003 when the Greens triumphed 3-1 in a League One encounter. Buster Phillips, Ian Stonebridge and David Norris scored on that day.
The last meeting at Whaddon Road was in October 2002. Argyle came from behind to win 2-1 against the Robins, thanks to goals from Graham Coughlan and Paul Wotton.

“Its sad times again for this club, 2 seasons on the slide and we havent stopped yet. Argyle and cup runs just dont go together. I saw the match aginst Notts County. Same old rubbish with new turf. I am not going to home park for a while it makes me sad.”

“Steve - I agree we should be favourites but I fear we will not take it seriously, though as with the Carling Cup there is a Wembley final at the end of it.
For example Gillingham away last season and Luton away the year before we should have been favourites but lost.
I've been an Argyle fan through thin and thinner since 1967 and in all that time (44 seasons) we've only really had 3 what you could call "cup runs".
So I'm not holding my breath for another cup run!!”

“Guys, I'm trying to put a positive spin on this. They're league 2, surely we should have the upper hand ? I'll probably join your sceptisism if we lose this one..”

“For a couple of hours on 7th August we were top of the league but normal service has now been resumed and we find ourselves in the bottom 4.
We have now sunk below (among others) Rochdale, Hartlepool and E*e*e*.
No doubt the Mickey Mouse Cup match will be deemed an inconvenience to the league program and we will make our customary early exit.”

“I forgot to add that the game I made mention of at Cheltenham was also in that lower league tournament, I recall it was the Windscreen wiper cup or something similar”

“How refreshing it is to know that you can always rely on Steve and biscuit for a chuckle in the morning... Argyle will lose this and you could almost certainly put your shirt on that... I remember going to Cheltenham on a few occasions and have never seen Argyle win. I recall one game where both sets of supporters were crammed into what they jokingly refered to as the 'grandstand' due to work in other parts of the ground... needless to say Argyle were spanked. The high point of the game is when we all sang "Stand up if your seats to small"
On a lighter note I see that Argyle have managed to secure a relegation place... Well done Peter Reid and co, makes you proud to be a Plymouthian.... Cider and Pasties for sunday breakfast”

“Let's be honest, we should comfortably win this one, even if we rest a few 1st team players. Let's also not forget that this is probably our best hope of a cup run ! Oh how times change eh....”

“Unfortunately, I think we will struggle in this fixture. Might have a better chance to win away than drawing and then losing at home. How much longer can the home park faithful put up with losing at home?”
