Plymouth Argyle investigate alleged racism at Home Park during Southend match
Plymouth Argyle are investigating alleged racism against a Southend United player during Saturday's match at Home Park.
A spokesman for Plymouth Argyle said: "We have received a number of complaints relating to crowd behaviour during Saturday's game.
-

"We are currently conducting a thorough investigation into these complaints."
It is understood racist abuse coming from a supporter towards the Barn Park end of the Lyndhurst stand was reported to the police by a Plymouth Argyle Fans Trust member.
Chris Webb, Plymouth Argyle president, said: "Our message to any so-called fans who cannot put aside their own bigotry for 90 minutes is simple: you are not welcome at Home Park.
"The Fans' Trust will be approaching the club to ensure that a robust system is in place for reporting such behaviour, but in the meantime we would urge any other fans who witness it to report it, in confidence, to the club or the Trust."
He added: "Such behaviour is not welcome and has no place at Home Park or in wider society.
"My beliefs and values are such that it makes me sick to the pit of my stomach to imagine anyone being discriminated against for any reason."

“Jannerbloke you have no idea.
I was right by where the comment was made in the Barn Park end of the Lyndhurst stand and the bloke was rightfully reported.
He said during his rant "muslim ****" which wasn't directed at anybody around him apart from the players on the pitch which are of different race. The stewards were not able to here it due to the loud singing so the Trust supporter rightfully went to the Police to make a statement and now this has been reported by the club and sky sports, bbc, newspapers have made supporters aware the club are not tolerating this and are right to kick this racism out of their club by issuing such statements and stories.”

“Mention has been made of EDL chants home and away and it has been suggested the Forza Verde branding has been associated with "ultra" fans as in Italy. I think this is dodgy ground and could be an unintentional welcome to racist fans.”

“This is useless journalism. A story about nothing. Someone has reported that a person whose identity may never be known may have said something that may never be described let alone quoted and which may or may not have fallen within someone's definition of racism but which may not rationally fall within any reasonable definition of that judgement and which has not lead to any complaint so may be presumed to have offended or even been heard by anyone capable of being offended. Plain daft, and moreso because it has brought suspicion and shame upon the club or at least the swathe of loyal supporters who occupy the Devonport end or adjacent areas. Can anyone provide a link or guide us towards a search lead that would help us find out what the fuss is about and develop a useful debate. If not, kill the speculation and move on. If the Herald's hard copy circulation is still plummeting so sharply and uncontrollably that it has to print such worthless rubbish then the papers future may be even more precarious than Argyle's.”

“If this relates to what I think it does, then the majority of Devonport end fans will not be welcome at the next home game.”

“Hardly GreenGOM, I'm from here and am continually embarrassed by some of my fellow Janners and their racist attitudes and crass stupidity.
Knowing idiots when you see them isn't racism (not that a Janner is a race), it's just knowing right from wrong.”

“We've always had more than our fair share of Janner morons in and around the city, so no shock there!”

“Racism in Plymouth? Surely not.
I'm glad you never see signs of it on these message pages.”
