Plymouth Argyle players on the children's ward at Derriford Hospital
STARS from Plymouth Argyle helped to spread some Christmas joy when they visited the children's wards at Derriford Hospital.
The footballers also visited the children's theatre and recovery unit as part of the festive surprise, signing autographs and giving presents to the children and their families.
Argyle Manager Carl Fletcher said: "It was a pleasure to visit the hospital this Christmas. The players thoroughly enjoyed meeting the children and their families, as well as the hospital staff.
"The lads had a whip round to provide some Christmas goodies and the Argyle Superstore packed up all kinds of exciting things for the children to enjoy.

"I hope that our visit brought a little bit of cheer to the children's lives, especially at this time of the year."
The players, along with Father Christmas, spent time with the children and gave gifts of books and selection boxes.
Argyle captain Darren Purse said: "We've come to try to bring some Christmas cheer. There's nothing worse than being in hospital over Christmas and it's nice to bring them a little surprise to try to keep their spirits up and hopefully make them feel a bit better.
Play Specialist Team Leader Sue Rogers said the wards try to create a positive experience for children and their families when they come into hospital.
She said: "We appreciate Plymouth Argyle thinking of us at this time of the year, especially as any time in hospital can be difficult and at Christmas it can feel harder as the children are missing activities and parties at home and school.
"We aim to create a Christmas atmosphere with activities and entertainment and receiving this donation will help us to achieve this."
