The Vicarage Road academy graduate will be available to Argyle manager Carl Fletcher up to and including our game with Rotherham on Saturday, October 27.

Despite his relatively tender age, Ross has made nearly 100 appearances for the Hornets in his short career.

“You don't play 80 times in the Championship without being half-decent,” said Fletcher.

“I’m delighted to have him here. He's only 21, but he's got 80 Championship games under his belt.

“We've obviously got a couple of injuries at the moment, with Paul Wotton and Jamie Lowry still out, so it'll be good for us to bolster that area of the squad.”

A player who has been on the radar for some time, Ross comes to the Theatre of Greens with a glowing reputation.

Fletch said: “We earmarked him through our scouting network and then we spoke to people we know.

“I know someone who used to work at Watford with him and Nance [Kevin Nancekivell] knew someone different who worked there, as well.

“And obviously we spoke to Rene [Gilmartin], who was there with him last year. They were all glowing references.

“He's keen, and obviously, with all the changes that have gone on at Watford, I think his chances might be a bit limited so he just wants to come and play that's ideal for us.”

Having debuted under former Watford manager Aidy Boothroyd in an early-season 2008-09 Carling Cup tie, the High Wycombe-born midfielder then enjoyed an extended run of starts under Brendan Rodgers.

However, during the last two seasons, Ross has found first-team opportunities hard to come by and has made just one start this term, in a Capital One Cup tie with Brentford.

A former England under-21 international, Ross will wear shirt number 30.

“@Peverellfan,there are a lot of good homegrown players on our doorstep playing in the SW PENIINSULA LEAGUE and other local league football who seem to be overlooked by Argyles scouting network, lets hope someone takes note and invites Shane for a trial sooner rather than later.
Have you alerted Home Park of his potential?”

“At a time when we are tightening are belts as a club why won't Fletch look closer to home. The best local player around is a centre mid. from Bodmin called Shane Krac he gets star man week in week out! Ok so it's a lower league but I watched this lad against Leeds ( as well as other occasions) and he was the best midfielder on the park. Never gives the ball away wears his heart on his sleeve and is a box to box player as well as scoring goals. Much better than what we have in the middle at the moment hands down!. Looks like we may have missed out though as Torquay are about to take him on trial. He lives local could sign now and would cost peanuts in wages. Whats a trial Fletch????”

“This is exactly what I have been thinking all week probably along with the rest of the Green Army. Thank god CF has been thinking the same. 80 games in the championship under his belt so the fact he is only 21 doesnt really mean a great deal. Welcome Ross and good luck for tomorrow.”
