Plymouth Argyle start search for chief executive
PLYMOUTH Argyle want to appoint a chief executive as soon as possible, and no later than the start of next season.
It follows on from the announcement of the proposed new grandstand at Home Park, which the club believe will improve the match-day experience for fans and ensure that Argyle have the resources required to develop the team on a sustainable basis.

Plymouth Argyle start search for chief executive
The Pilgrims have operated without a chief executive since the departure of Michael Dunford in July 2009 after the ill-fated 'New World' takeover of the club.
An Argyle spokesman said: "It is expected the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate good commercial acumen in a football/sports club environment.

"He or she will work in partnership with the general manager and football manager to build success, both on and off the field.
"The candidate will also play a key role in maximising the hospitality and commercial benefits from the grandstand.
"The appointment is anticipated to take effect as soon as possible and, in any event, before the start of the next season."

“Just a thought, but why do we need both a General Manager and a Chief Executive? If you have a Chief Executive surely the various Heads of Department, i.e. Finance, Commercial, Communications, Football, Youth Development, etc, all report to him or her? I can't see the need for both.
Also, Michael Dunford has told at least one former employee I know that he is preparing to return as Chief Executive! He might be jumping the gun there, or he knows more than the author of this article. But, he has a tarnished reputation after his close involvement with the New World Board and cannot possibly be good news. That Board's decisions, many taken on Dunford's watch, has played a major role in so many of our problems over the last five years. There is much to be admired in the old maxim, "never go back", and in my opinion Dunford would be a really bad reappointment. If we had to go back I'd go for a safe and solid sound administrator like Captain David Tall. He had both feet firmly on the ground and wouldn't get swept along on airy fairy schemes like Gardner/Todd and their cronies.
Personally I think we need a visionary and strong leader running the business of the club and if it were me, I'd take a flame-thrower to the off-field organisation and structure and fit the business for the modern challenges in football. But, happily for Argyle, I won't be a candidate! I did contemplate applying about ten years ago, but not now.”

“Let's concentrate on the field before we waste any more money in the boardroom, it's what happens with players that comes first.”

“I think Brent said similar on taking over the club, what, 18 months ago?!
The sooner it happens the better.”
