Plymouth Devils chief in quit threat
Plymouth Devils boss Mike Bowden has threatened to sell the city speedway club and walk away.
Bowden made his threat in response to criticism from fans on the internet.
The Devils' chairman and promoter told Herald Sport: "Plymouth Devils will run in 2012, but if anybody comes forward to buy the club, I will walk away."
It is not the first time internet fans have annoyed the Devils boss – but rarely to the point where he has threatened to quit the sport.
Bowden, who started the Devils practically single-handedly, successfully applied for the club to go into the Premier League for the first time in its history last season.
The club struggled initially, but strung together nine straight home wins at the end of the season.

“think mr bowden getting a rough deal here.after losing my beloved falcons and being able to see premier league speedway in devon again we all need to thank him for that.I Agree mistakes were made last seaon and things were poor to start with ,but things were turned arround and had a strong finish. he is human and premier league racing is a different ball game to national league racing and he has learnt the hard way and will be better prepared this time which shows i think bye this years line up.starting a month earlier this year show his intent to be ready.
lets give the guy a break and judge him after this season.also lets not forget the gate prices are cheapest in league and enables us to be able to travel down from exeter to make it affordable.if it wasnt for him there would be no speedway in plymouth. we lost colin hill god rest his soul and now we have know speedway dont forget that!!!!!!!”

“Mike Bowden has SINGLE HANDEDLY brought speedway back to Plymouth. I used to go to Exeter EVERY Monday and now we have no track. County yourself lucky you HAVE a track to go to rather than having a go at a man who is doing a fabulous job. You think food is overpriced? GO TO POOLE OR ANY OTHER ELITE LEAGUE TRACK, guaranteed it is dearer!
As for the comment 'nothing for kids to do'.....KIDS SHOULD BE WATCHING THE SPEEDWAY IF THEY ARE BROUGHT ALONG, NOT PLAYING ON A SEE SAW OR BOUNCY CASTLE.
IDIOTS.”

“Bowden doesn't give a flying f about the supporters, all he wants from you is your hard earned cash to line his pockets and what do you get? over priced drinks and food, no shelter for rain, nothing for young kids to do and as for health and safety there isn't any, methanol kept and dispensed from a small unventilated room next to the medics! just wait till someone slips down the unlit entrance ramp.....”

“We have a Rugby team begging for fans, a football team begging for fans and a speedway team that has some of the best attendance figures in the country. What's Mike B doing wrong? We should be applauding his success.”

“How easy it is to be negative and anonymous on the Internet. Mr Bowden may not be everyone's cup of tea but you have to admire the man for his drive in bringing speedway back to Plymouth. The Devils are one of the best attended clubs in the Premier League which I think says more about speedway in Plymouth than the comments of a few sad people on the Web.”

“Bowden is completely pathetic. He's nothing but a con-man who's completely ripping off the fans at Plymouth. We can only hope that ANYONE else comes in to buy the place.”

“Keep walking and then we can have our peace and quiet back on Friday evenings on the Woodford estate.
OK - a speedway team needs a track but not right alongside a large housing estate.”
