Plymouth Get Hired expo attracts hundreds of job seekers
THE Herald's Get Hired expo got off to a flying start as hundreds of job seekers of all ages packed into the Guildhall this morning.
The free event, which runs until 7pm, features a host of employers and agencies ready to give advice and opportunities to people looking for work.
More than 200 people passed through the doors during the first hour of the expo.
Nina Sarlaka, executive director at City College Plymouth, gave an opening speech in which she said there are encouraging signs despite rising youth unemployment.

She said: "Apprenticeships are a real valid opportunity for our young people. More than a million young people are unemployed and we need young people to know that they have options, that they don't have to go down that route.
"I am passionate about that. It's great to see our local businesses and employers come together to show what Plymouth can offer in a free environment."
Job seeker Harry Danaher, 19, said: "I had never heard of this before but I have just filled out an application form for a telesales job.
"It's giving people a chance, giving people the know-how and experience."
