Mr Yearde, of Zion Road, in Croydon, was also accused of possession of an imitation firearm during the incident.

He had also been charged with possession of crack cocaine, a Class A drug, with intent to supply on the same date.

At Plymouth Crown Court yesterday the Crown Prosecution Service said it had reviewed the case against him and was withdrawing the prosecution due to a lack of evidence.

As a result, the Crown's case against Mr Yearde was discontinued.
