The Plymouth charity, which has been running for six years, was able to employ the worker for one day a week for three months, which helped them greatly during a time of upheaval as they were moving premises and re-branding the charity.

Julie Nash, an advisor at the charity said: "The worker was also involved in making the service much more widely known.

"We have seen our numbers increase significantly thanks to the work that was done."

Pregnancy Crisis Care provides counselling, advice and impartial support to those facing an unplanned pregnancy.

Julie added: "We also support women who have had abortions and haven't coped well afterwards.

"Another of our services is to provide grief counselling for anyone who has suffered other forms of loss such as a miscarriage or stillbirth.

"The charities around the city are making a massive difference to city life and anyone who is supporting that, like Comic Relief, should be thanked and encouraged."

The Herald has teamed up with Comic Relief to dish out £50,000 to deserving causes in Plymouth from the Red Nose Day Community Cash Fund.
