Plymouth man who slashed officer with broken glass is jailed
A MAN who slashed a policeman with a piece of glass has been jailed for 20 months.
Josh May, aged 20, smashed a vase and cut the constable's hand, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

May, who first appeared in court aged 12, was imprisoned for assaulting two officers and another man during a separate incident.
He will start his latest sentence when he completes a three-year term for burglary and breach of bail in September next year.

Julia Cox, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said two officers had gone to May's home in Duncombe Avenue, Honicknowle, to arrest him on February 21 after he missed his burglary trial.
She added he was found in a kitchen cupboard.
Miss Cox said Pc Greg Rundle managed to get a handcuff around one wrist but said May was "raging".
She added: "He became increasingly aggressive and kicked Pc Rendle in the shins.
"He was shouting and screaming throughout."
Miss Cox said the pair stumbled against the living room fire place, where May smashed a vase and swung a piece of glass at Pc Rendle.
She added: "As he carried through the swinging action, he cut the officer on the back of the hand."
Miss Cox said a second officer, Pc Duncan Watson, was also cut on the hand as a result of the struggle.
May had earlier pleaded guilty to maliciously wounding Pc Rundle and assaulting Pc Watson with intent to resist arrest.
Miss Cox said May had approached victim Mark Lavercombe in New George Street on December 2 last year.
She added: "He began to throw punches. He was hit to the ground and kicked while on the ground to the face and body." Miss Cox said he was left with a cut and swollen face.
May had admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
The court heard May had 21 convictions, some going back to the age of 12. He has several convictions for assault.
Ali Rafati, for May, said he "had grown up in the criminal justice system",
He added he had been pleasant to deal with in custody.
Mr Rafati said: "When on the outside and particularly on alcohol and Valium he turns into something quite different."
He stressed both officers had suffered "very minor cuts".
Mr Rafati said he had tested negative for drugs in prison.

“The other day policeman pepper sprayed a man sitting on a chair in a Tesco because he would not leave the premises. This nutter takes on two policeman and he is having a right go at them. He should have been left totally incapacited with pepper spray, stun guns and baton hits. Somebody needs to train our Plymouth police on the use of this equipment and when to use it. Man sitting in a chair/man going beserk ? Doh!”
