A MAN who spat at and pushed his ex-girlfriend has been handed a restraining order and ordered to pay her compensation.

Ryan Brokenshire, of Edwards Drive, Plympton, pleaded guilty at Plymouth Magistrates Court to causing £50 worth of damage to a door and to assaulting Kiera Tiffany on January 3 this year.

Prosecutor Angela Furniss told magistrates how Brokenshire, aged 22, had been in a relationship with the girl for a year but she had told police he had shown "frequent bouts of temper, bashing walls and doors but never at her".

She said the couple had separated and tried again several times, but eventually the girl decided just before New Year's Day it was over. However, by January 3 his texts to her had become more frequent and when the tone changed she decided to ignore them.

Mrs Furniss said Brokenshire had gone to her home. Ms Tiffany had said she was "fed up with his temper" and their relationship was "over" before telling him to leave.

However, he began to pound against a door, smashing holes in it. When the girl tried to stop him he pushed her and returned to striking the door.

The girl became frightened "he would hit her". He then spat at her face, pushed her a second time while "shouting and swearing". He then began to kick the door repeatedly, almost breaking it in two.

He still refused to leave, said Mrs Furniss, so the girl went towards his car hinting she was going to scratch it. As he followed her, she doubled back, raced inside and shut her front door. As he banged on the door demanding entry, she called police.

Brokenshire had told police Ms Tiffany had ended the relationship "numerous times" yet allowed him back repeatedly.

He admitted to police he had used sufficient force to shove her a metre, admitted spitting into her face and refusing to leave.

Brokenshire, unrepresented, told magistrates he was not a violent person. He said one moment she would ask him to leave and the next she would sleep with him, before then saying they were through.

He said their relationship was "very volatile".

Chairman of the bench Jane Mutch said Brokenshire would be the subject of a community order for 24 months. He would have to attend 30 sessions of the Building Better Relationships programme, pay Ms Tiffany £100 compensation, pay her landlady £50 compensation for the door, pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Mrs Mutch said Brokenshire would also be subject to a restraining order, adding: "You are a bright young man and you should have a future – but you have some problems and these problems need to be addressed. You can't carry on and behave like this – you need to get as much help as possible."

“More Little Britains destined for their 30 minutes of fame on the Jeremy Kyle show. Good grief what a waste of time and money these people are.”
