A MOTORCYLIST was "lucky to be alive" after he was thrown from his bike while travelling on the A38 last night, police said.

The man, who is understood to be in his 20s, was riding his Honda 125cc motorcycle westbound near Plympton just after the B3416 Deep Lane junction, at around 5.10pm yesterday evening when he was thrown from the vehicle.

A police spokesman said the rider landed on the grass verge rather than the carriageway itself. He suffered leg and back injuries which were treated by paramedics before he was taken to Derriford Hospital.

One lane was closed while the bike and debris were recovered by Highways Agency staff, causing long tailbacks. The road was fully opened again by around 7.30pm.

“Accidents happen. Mechanical failure could cause the transmission to lock and throw the rider off.”

“How do you get thrown from a bike? You get thrown from a horse when the horse does something unexpected, but surely not from a bike. Surely he either was knocked off, or he fell off?

Anyway, shoddy journalism aside, I hope he makes a swift recovery!”

“Thrown from his bike? No other vehicle involved? On a good road? What was he doing? Poor reporting again...”
