Plymouth pupils celebrate World Book Day
SCHOOLCHILDREN have been dressing up as their favourite characters to celebrate World Book Day.
Pupils from The Erme School, in Ivybridge, have learnt about the importance of reading and battled it out in a competition as they dressed up as their favourite characters.
The 115 students dressed as a variety of characters and staff transformed themselves into scarecrows, witches and elves for the day.
Organised by literacy co-ordinator Eve Edworthy, the day aimed to encourage more children to read and recognise the different genres the children are interested in.

Lesley Martin, a teaching assistant for The Erme School, said: "It was a really good day, the children's costumes were really imaginative and funny."
Throughout the day the children learnt about different authors in different classes and there was an assembly for parents to hear about what their children had learnt.
Cllr Francis Green, Mayor of Ivybridge, judged the entries and the best dressed received a book for their hard work and she gave every child a chocolate egg for their efforts.
