A spokesman said: “Derriford Hospital continues to be under extreme pressure from the volume of medical admissions and higher than expected number of ambulance transfers into our emergency department, combined with local bed demand remaining higher than expected for this time of year.

“Our staff are working extremely hard to maintain high levels of care for our patients and we are being well supported by our colleagues in the local health community and the ambulance service.

“Regrettably it has been necessary to cancel some operations and we are sorry to those patients who have been affected by this unprecedented demand on our services.

“We would again like to thank our staff for their efforts and also extend that thanks to our patients for their understanding during this time.

“We are monitoring the situation very closely and continue to work with our colleagues in the wider healthcare community to try and reduce the pressure we are currently experiencing.”

Nobody from the hospital was able to reveal how many operations have so far been cancelled.

“The good news is that your taxes are still ringfenced to give aid to other countries with cultures older than ours that cannot be bothered to get off their backsides and do something for themselves .
So while your mum is dying waiting for a serious operation ... she is actualy doing others a favour and a socialist hero . So none of you dare complain . Its for others wellbeing as well as yourselfs . So stop being selfish expecting your money to be wasted upon just you . After all.. you vote for socialists so dont whinge when socialist ideals (and 53 million quid a day to unelected foriegners - every one a left winger) are put upon you and you see the results "comrads".”
