Brought to Plymouth by Ice Angel Events, the outdoor ice rink on the Piazza will be open daily throughout the winter for four months of skating, until Sunday 24 February.

To mark the opening of the rink on Saturday, a special evening show will be held at 6.30pm, with figure skaters and freestylers from the Plymouth Pavilions Synchro team putting on a stunning display that will wow onlookers and get everyone excited for a festive season of skating.

Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre Manager said: “The open air ice rink has always been one of the most popular elements of the Winter Festival, and having the rink open for the whole of the winter season, not just over Christmas, means that everyone will have plenty of opportunities to make the most of it being here in Plymouth.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the rink officially opened with what will no doubt be another spectacular display from our very talented local ice skaters, some as young as six years old, and I hope that they will encourage everyone else to grab their hats and scarves and have a go themselves.”

The Plymouth Winter Ice Rink will be open from 9am – 8.15pm Monday to Saturday and 9am – 6.15pm Sunday.

During term time the rink will be used for free school sessions until 2.30pm. Ice skating lessons will be available, and the rink can also be booked for parties and private hire.

On Christmas Eve, children will have the unmissable chance to have Breakfast with Santa at the rink, with breakfast, a special Christmas present and a skating session all for just £10.

Kim Downham, Director of Ice Angel Events added: “We are thrilled to be back again this year working closely with Plymouth City Centre Company to provide a wonderful and welcoming experience for all.”

Daily ice skating sessions begin at half past the hour, with tickets prices starting at just £3.

Organised by Plymouth City Centre Company, the winter ice rink is part of the Plymouth Winter Festival, which also includes the Christmas Lights Switch On and return of the Christmas markets on Thursday 22 November, Twinkling Twilight Lantern Parade on Thursday 6 September and Santa’s Grotto at Frankfort Gate from Thursday 22 November to Monday 24 December.

“Great gimmick for Christmas, and lovely that they do free lessons for schools, but having skated on it a few times, I'll stick to the Pavilions. You get what you pay for afterall.”
