The patching works are being funded out of the additional £250,000 capital funding that Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Transport and the Cabinet announced in December for repairs to larger road sections.

Councillor Coker said: “We are trying to repair the worst damaged roads in Plymouth as quickly as possible.

“The severe and prolonged wet weather at the end of 2012 ravaged our highways network but we are committed to addressing this, which is why this patching programme is taking place.”

Local residents and businesses within the vicinity of the works will be notified by letter, and the works will not take place at weekends or during the night.

Where road closures are required, diversion routes will be signed and vehicle access for residents will be maintained wherever possible.

The programme is on top of the £760,000 which has already been spent on the city’s road in the last year.

Cllr Coker continued: “The recent wet weather has ravaged roads in Plymouth and across the region.

“We are investing in additional resources and innovative equipment to help address the situation as quickly as possible.

“We appreciate that travelling around Plymouth will be challenging over the coming weeks and ask road users to be patient while this essential work is undertaken.”

“Why do the council continue to waste OUR money on these pointless tasks? Who is the "brainwave" behind these ideas? The pothole filling is just a waste of time and money as within a matter of weeks they just reappear due to the poor quality of the repair. Why not just use the money to re-tarmac the worst of the major routes PROPERLY and go from there, as at least we wouldn't have to continually pay for the same repair being carried out multiple times.
Ford Park Road is a major route during peak times and is in a very poor condition, so why are road alterations being conducted with new road markings being put in place, when this will have to be re-done after the resurfacing? That is if the council EVER plan to carry this out.
POOR DECISIONS FROM POOR PLANNERS DOING A JOB POORLY
But then again its not coming out of their pockets is it”

“Ignoring any particular road in Plymouth. You cannot seriously blame the rain at the end of 2012! You (PCC) have been neglecting the road surfaces in Plymouth for years! Preferring to spend countless millions on absurd projects such as Gydnia Way and putting god knows how many sets of traffic lights on roundabouts!
You come out, after about two weeks of reporting a pothole, to fill it (poorly I might add) only for it to rain, freeze overnight ad to be smashed to stone chippings again in the morning by the next days traffic. An utterly pointless waste of money.
I have had to replace two tyres with side wall damage and two bent alloys in the past year due to your inability to provide a decent road surface to drive upon. The MOT is due soon, so if I have a damaged suspension, anti-roll bars or a steering rack, expect a solicitors letter!
PS. If you are short of cash, grind down the speed bumps you have needlessly put all over the city (which also damage my car), add some bitumen/tar and resurface with that!”
