“As "Nevman" says these are necessary planned engineering works and as there are no diversionary rail routes available west of Exeter the line has to be closed temporarily to carry out the work.Hence replacement road coaches.
So if your travelling by rail into Cornwall this week track improvements and maintenance are taking place from 02:00 on 16/02/13 to 02:00 on 22/02/13 between Plymouth and Liskeard.
Whilst work is taking place, buses will replace trains
    between Plymouth and Liskeard
    between Plymouth and St Austell

Also starting next Sunday 24/02/13 for five consecutive Sundays up to Easter in the other direction the rail line between Plymouth and Newton Abbot will also be closed for planned engineering works with busses replacing trains. So If your travelling beyond Exeter that will mean a coach trip up the A38/M5 to Tiverton Parkway station in order to continue your jourrney onwards by rail from there.”

“If you'd checked in advance when you booked your ticket, olddogbreath, you'd have noticed that replacement buses were scheduled for this planned engineering work. Railways aren't made of indestructium, you know.”

“I was told these works are being carried out for the rest of the week -possible finish on thursday with lots of crews doing shift work to complete it . And planned to cause less disruption with the school kids off of school . When would you morons do this important work ?”

“And in case you didn't realise that this article is railway related, here is the Herald's one and only railway picture. Again.”
