The owner of a curious cat that spent four nights stuck up a 65ft tree in Plymouth has said she can't thank the fire service enough for rescuing her mischievous moggy.

Five-year-old Narla, a grey and white tortoiseshell, was finally rescued from an old oak tree in Royal Navy Avenue, Keyham, on Saturday morning.

Eight specialist firefighters from Camels Head and  RSPCA workers spent two-hours trying to entice the forlorn feline down on Friday, as reported in The Herald.

But despite their best efforts Narla would not come down.

A team of five firefighters attended the scene again on Saturday at 10am where they found Narla asleep on a blanket they had placed lower down in the tree.

Watch Manager Nigel Toms, who was in charge of the rescue, said: "When we went back to the tree Narla had come down a bit and it was much calmer and quieter because there weren't any people there this time. We were able to get her down within 15 minutes and took her safely back to her owner.

"Narla was in perfect condition, she was lively and seemed to have no ill effects from her little escapade in the tree. Our cunning plan came into fruition.

"We are just hoping she didn't enjoy herself so much that she decides to go back!"

Narla's owner Tracey Bull said she last saw her cat on Tuesday morning and was soon told by a friend's son that her pet was stuck up the tree.

She said: "The firefighter rang me to say they had got her down and I was so happy. It was awful seeing her stuck up the tree - she kept crying. The firemen brought her around to me on Saturday morning. She doesn't look too worse for wear. She's getting lots of fuss now she's back home and has been fast asleep on the bed since she returned.

"I am so thankful to the firemen - I can't thank them enough. They were brilliant. I'm just hoping she doesn't decide to climb any more trees!"

“Sorry, don't normally leave comments, but had to for this!

Slack Alice, you are obviously so bored with your life you vent your anger posting sweeping generalisations about people you know nothing about. Your pointless, provocative comments are bitter and sad.

You seem to be so self loathing that you openly invite argument in the desperate need for attention. I also feel you are probably a bully that hids behind a keyboard because in the real, physical world, you are a nobody, a nothing, who doesn't have the guts to voice opinion.

So you use this forum to be somebody. Seriously, Alice, do one! No one will miss you. You provide no value with your sweeping statements, in fact, you make the experience quite unpleasant for others.

Personally, about this story, yes, it would have cost thousands, but it has a happy ending. I live by the tree, and there was a lot of local interest, so you couldn't help hoping it turned out ok in the end.”

    “SLACK_ALICE

I'd love my cat to leave a deposit around your house. The deposit would have more intelligence than you display.

Your comments just seem to be unbelievably bitter and will not change a thing.

People will love & own pets and most people I know have cats that use litter trays so your post isn't accurate.

I think 'slack' refers to your thought process.

    “@stevestrange.

So you will be using the vets next time your ill then. And instead of all the doctors, nurses, ambulance drivers etc that you place lower on the scale of importance than dumb animals we can get a trained cat to operate on you. If your lucky it might s__t on your face..”

So I assume you'd be ok if I come round to your place and leave a package in your garden then.
That's really what it boils down to.”
