Plymouth
I have been following the recent spate of letters with interest. and at last felt that I have to write. Congratulations to Tom for being voted a
Janner, but does he come from Devonport. No. so really his title should be a True Plymouthian. or Devonian. Not even Francis Drake could be a Janner, as he was born in Tavistock. likewise other people. Robert Scott is on the Outskirts of Devonport Milehouse. The name Janner orginated from the Navy, as the ships were coming back into Devonport -- the Docks- they would say Janners are returning home.....
Now the second thing I want to say is We are not near an Ocean, do people not realise that the water outside of the Breakwater Bar is actually the English Channel. the Ocean is over on the North Devon Coast i.e. Newquay etc., so we will have to be careful with the re naming of our Great and Beautiful City , otherwise we shall have people laughing at us....
And lastly on October 8th 2012. there was an article in the Evening Herald on the Old Palace Theatre in Union Street. with the headlines of "I'll work with others to save Landmark building the club boss says he's open to offers to help.....Did anyone offer to help, I wrote and suggested he contacted the unemployment office, as it would give young and old something to do , and that would be ideal also for the young offenders, rather than picking up litter. something to work for. I am not sure if he got my letter, as there was no proper address to write to, I just put c/o of the Palace.
