Plymstock boost hopes with hard fought win over City Bus
PLYMOUTH AND DISTRICT SATURDAY LEAGUE
DIVISION ONE
PLYMSTOCK almost certainly guaranteed their Division One place for next season with a hard fought victory over City Bus at Milehouse.
Plymstock won 129-127 with the rink of Dave Roberts making the difference, up 45-24 on the day.
Plymstock now sit comfortably in mid table while City Bus, who can't buy a win at the moment, need at least one victory to stand any sort of chance of staying up.
Mount Gold had a win snatched away from them.
Beacon Down skip Brian Bricknell played a Mount wood off the green to pick up four shots and win by one shot 126-125.
DIVISION TWO
FOURTH PLACED Yealmpton stormed to a great win over leaders Ivybridge 131-109.
Yealmpton, however, undid all their good work when they played Saltash in a rearranged fixture and slumped to a 113-72 defeat. They were mainly undone by the rink of Jim Ashton, up 39-13.
For Saltash it ended a perfect few days after they had beaten Cornish neighbours and promotion hopefuls Torpoint 133-108 on home territory.
Those two wins have banished any thoughts that Saltash would be dragged into the relegation battle as they now sit comfortably in mid table.
Local rivals Devonport Park and Tamar, whose problems this season have been well documented, met at Central Park in a private relegation battle.
The gloom lifted a little as they won against a depleted Devonport Park 131-108. The rink of Pete Phillips was the pick for Tamar, up 43-23.
Defeat for Devonport Park will almost certainly mean relegation.
Tamar's win was also bad news for Sir Francis Drake (B) who without playing were relegated to the third division.
DIVISION THREE
RUNAWAY leaders Dean Cross dealt second placed Unity Park's promotion hopes a blow when they defeated them 127-107 at Plymstock.
Chris Toms and his rink led the way for the champions, up 37-15. The defeat proved crucial for Unity Park as their nearest rivals Peverell Park had a good win over Tothill at Central Park to take over second spot.
Peverell won 123-109 and have a two-point lead over Unity and are now favourites to join Dean Cross in the second division.
Stuart Road are ending their season in fine style after beating Lee Moor 125-116 to push themselves up to the comfort of mid table.
They are in line for their best finish in many a year and have also finished top of Division D in the Evening League.
THIS weekend Plymouth sides CSBC and North Down face big games as they try to secure places in the finals of two prestigious county competitions.
Today, CSBC travel to Culm Vale in the quarter-finals of the County Top Club, while North Down face another tough away fixture against Bideford in the same competition.
Tomorrow, both teams have to travel again in the quarter-finals of the County Trophy.
CSBC face Madeira at Bitton Park while for North Down it's deja vu as they take on Bideford at Culm Vale
