Police name man killed in A38 crash in Plymouth hailstorm
TRIBUTES have been paid to a dad-of-three who died in a road accident on the A38 last week.
Kevin Caswell's family last night described the tragic 42-year-old as a "fantastic father".
Mr Caswell, a member of the Territorial Army, died after his red Ford Fiesta spun on the icy road as a sudden hail storm covered the area.
It is understood he was struck by another vehicle, having stepped from his car on the Parkway shortly before 6am last Tuesday, January 22.
Police said another vehicle, a Toyota Avensis, was also involved in the incident which took place on the eastbound lane between the Manadon off-slip and Forder Valley on-slip.
The crash was one of five two-vehicle collisions to take place within minutes on a short stretch of the busy road, triggering gridlock across the city.
Mr Caswell, from Plymouth, was treated at the scene, but he later died of his injuries. The road was closed for nearly 10 hours as a specialist forensic investigation of the scene took place.
Devon and Cornwall Police said Mr Caswell was married with three children and it is understood he was a member of the Territorial Army.
A tribute to him released by his family said: "Kevin was a fantastic bloke. He was always welcoming to others, polite, happy go lucky and the life and soul of every party.
"Kevin was a fantastic father to three children, Sophie, aged 19, James, aged 18, and Brandon, aged four, along with his wife Hazel, who had been together for 23 years.
"Kevin will be truly missed by everyone that loved him dearly.
"The family would like to thank the people that was there to help to keep Kevin warm and not alone on that tragic morning. Thank you so much to the people who have given their respects and who helped Kevin on the morning of the accident."
Police from the Plymouth Serious Collision Investigation Unit are still appealing for witnesses to the incident.
If you can assist their inquiry contact them on 101 quoting log number DCP – 20130122-0100.

“Grammer is important it relates the true meaning of what is being said. Although DaveDave2's point is picky.
My irritation is the use of the word tragic.
I did not know the man, but if I was described as a Tragic 31 year old I would be very peeved. His death is tragic. He was not.”

“@DaveDave2
You must be a really bored man! I could not believe what you had written at this very sad time. My husband knew and worked with this poor man discussing his plans for the future only the day before he was killed. I have been with my husband for 22years with three children of similar ages and I can't imagine their utter utter devastation at what they have lost! In the last two years I had to prepare both myself and my children with the aid of counselling and profession help for the loss of my father after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. I had to watch my children bereft before the event and watch them crumble as their beloved grandad deteriorates but the one thing I've always been grateful for is that we have been given the opportunity to tell and show him how much we love him every single day and he hasn't been suddenly taken from us with so much left unsaid. This poor family will be forever left with 'what ifs' and regrets that they didn't always show how much they loved him.this family have lost a father, a partner, a banker,a car maintainer, a life partner a soul mate, WHO CARES WHAT GRAMMER THE HERALD HAS USED!!!!!!!”
