Postnatal Pilates proving popular
POSTNATAL Pilates classes are proving popular with mums across the city as they begin repairing muscles damaged in childbirth and provide much-needed relaxation opportunities.
Cassie Williamson, who runs Pilates with Cassie, holds a weekly mother and baby class at St Edwards Church Hall, Peverell, from midday on Wednesdays.
She said: "I set up the class because a lot of the ladies I taught antenatal Pilates wanted to know what they could do after their babies were born. Pilates provides an opportunity for women to exercise safely following childbirth and I can tailor the exercises to suit each woman giving them great care and attention.
"The mental benefits of Pilates are great too, it gives the women some focus time and we do relaxation at the end of each class. It also promotes good posture and body awareness and improves core stability. It helps repair all those areas that have been stretched and put under strain throughout pregnancy."

You can start doing Pilates six weeks after giving birth, or after 12 weeks if you've had a caesarian.
Pilates focuses on the core muscles so will help with pelvic floor weakness and improving deep abdominal control which should help to flatten the tummy and support the back.
Kirsty Nicholson, of Plymouth Pilates Practice, who runs a mother and baby class every Wednesday in the Sage Cafe, in Hyde Park, from 10.30am, said: "Pilates is fantastic for mothers who want to get their pre-pregnancy body back. It's also a really great social thing to do with your baby. I carry out exercises focusing on the pelvic floor muscles, core stomach muscles, control of the spine and also include some exercises for the babies which is similar to baby massage.
"It's not just good for physical wellbeing, it's great for emotional wellbeing too. The breathing exercises really help the mums to relax and it's nice to be around other women who know what you're going through."
