POTHOLE Pete is back on the case as a number of road repairs have started to break up, according to residents.

Eagle-eyed readers have spotted culprits on Crownhill Road, Rectory Road and on Brest Road where the repairs appear not to have fared well over recent months.

Lorraine Roberts, from Weston Mill, said: "And though there has been a marked improvement on the road surfaces around Plymouth, the road from the traffic lights at Honicknowle through to the Blue Monkey is in a terrible state. Some potholes have been filled, but the whole surface is breaking up."

Kevin Ball, from St Budeaux, added: "The roads are terrible, especially on Victoria Road and Crownhill Road.

"The council need to repair the potholes properly instead of just patching them over."

Parts of Crownhill Road were just some of the many routes targeted in the council's massive resurfacing and patching programme earlier this year. But now the road surface appears to riddled with holes and broken tarmac.

Cheryl Roseveare, from West Park, said: "There's lots of potholes and the roads are in a terrible condition. The council have repaired them in some areas but not in all - there are a lot that need to be done."

Rita Boys, also of West Park, added: "The potholes desperately need attention. Patching is not good enough. It needs resurfacing - potholes can be dangerous especially for people who don't see them."

Plymouth City Council completed road repairs programme Operation Upgrade in September.

The £1.82million operation targeted areas that had suffered the most damage during the last two years.

But it seems the pothole problems are never-ending.

A spokeswoman for Plymouth City Council, said: "In the last month we have had 1001 potholes reported and have filled 1001 potholes. From April to November 8,583 potholes were reported and filled.

"We have not had any recent reports of potholes on Rectory Road but would urge people to report them to us by calling 01752 668000 or on www.plymouth.gov.uk. An inspector will then be sent out within 24hrs to assess the situation and arrange for repair works if necessary.

"We have identified that resurfacing work needs to be done on Victoria Road in St Budeaux; there are no immediate safety issues and this work will be done as soon as possible. We have also identified works need to be done on Crownhill Road which will be looked at as part of on-going resurfacing works in the near future.

"Cabinet recently approved an additional £1.3 million for the Operation Upgrade Phase one budget, which will be used for further resurfacing works for completion by the end of March. Phase two, which will start in April, is currently being planned."

“This censorship of the Tommy Herald cracks me up - it now complains of the abbreviation D I F F S short for differencials, the planatary motion gearing that allows the axle to rotate in the correct direction, which can be 'locked' in 4x4's to equal the right/left torque applied to the wheels (but increases tyre scrubbing). Good job I cannot post the recipe for ****ake and cucumber here - I SAID ******* A KE (a mushroom) AND C U C U M B E R (a vegetable).”

“And to think that Weston Mill is shortly going to get more heavy traffic. Rubbish lorries are not lightweights, and neither are 4x4's with locked di***. Or bent hubs as a result of the speed bumps.”

“Potholes form because asphalt road surfaces eventually crack under the heat of the day and the constant stresses of traffic. These cracks allow snow and rainwater to seep into the underlying dirt and gravel. During cold winter nights, this water freezes and expands. Some of the dirt and gravel is pushed out as a result, leaving a hole when the water eventually melts. Drivers continue to drive over these unseen holes, putting even more stress on the thin asphalt layer covering them.”

“I still believe Ameys the contractor for repairing pot holes has some one in there back pocket , they are reciving millions of pounds for doing shoddy work .
Its time that some one looked into the inspectors that are letting this company get away with the poor workman ship that Ameys are doing”
