Potholes are part of our green future
We could have maintained our roads long before the collapse of the economy to ensure the problems with potholes would never have happened. However, why waste money repairing something that's not going to see much use in the future? In a mere 37 years from now, Plymouth aims to cut its carbon footprint by 80%. How can it achieve this with so many cars on the road now or with the expected increase as the population increases, partly due to the free movement of people within Europe, many of whom will settle here?
Gradually, over a period, we have noticed stricter emissions tests as part of a vehicle's MOT. The introduction of cleaner fuels. Now things are about to step up a gear and its now easier to visualise how the future will look for those under the age of 20. Later this year they will introduce a new form of green petrol called E10. Those who have already used E10 in other parts of the world claim that it will reduce MPH and seriously damage engines produced before 2002 and cost the motorist an average of £80 a year more. That should result in a huge reduction of cars and for those who can't afford newer expensive models will be forced off the road or go deeply into debt buying new during these times of austerity.
Large 4x4's used purely for pleasure will have to go resulting in a loss of investment because the resale market will be limited. Newer eco-friendly electric cars will be too expensive for most people and force even more reduction in traffic.

People often ask why dual carriageways are reduced to one lane and the emergence of so many bus and cycle lanes. Plymouth City Council signed up to Agenda 21 back in 1993 so all these adjustments have been a long time in the planning, not to cope with today's traffic but the vastly reduced vehicle numbers of the future. The 21 in Agenda 21 means the 21st century and things are now picking up in pace.
Regards the new eco development at Seaton, people question the need for new shops while the city centre is dying. The answer is simple, these satellite eco-villages and small towns will spring up everywhere and because fewer people will have cars, they need to be self-sufficient with supermarkets and other essential shops thus no need to pollute the atmosphere while driving any distance. Buses, bicycles and possibly trams will be the only way to get to the city centre. There will be good profits in producing these eco-villages, anybody noticed the cheap materials used in new developments nowadays? The seemingly expensive solar add-ons will enable developers to hike the prices even more. Relaxation of the planning laws will allow even more developments to flourish.
Worryingly, the supermarkets in these new villages will stock food containing GM products and because each new house will feature very small, if any garden areas, growing your own vegetables won't be an option. You will eat what the government wants you to eat. The recent horse burger saga also illustrated the amount of garbage we are already eating.
Things like the New World Order have long been viewed as a conspiracy but more and more people are beginning to believe that it is really true. Things to add into the mix...thanks to the bankers and political elite, has our economy gone down the pan? Are green taxes killing businesses? Are we losing our sovereignty and democracy and further being controlled by unelected people in Brussels? Is Europol really an European police force? Then we have trials without juries and the erosion of being innocent until proven guilty. Are our politicians working for us, the British people or are they ignoring us on things like a democratic vote on membership to the EU? Have they got the faintest idea how to get the economy going again?
Are we being spied on? Many already know that our computers and mobile phones can be hacked. A KGB type organisation is in place to identify people who use social websites exercising their freedom of speech and now we have to be careful what we say.
Many now believe that WW111 has already begun, but rather than guns and bombs, this time they are doing things by stealth. Global Warming has been hammered home within the education system and the question on a lot of people's minds is whether Global Warming really is happening rather than natural climate change or was it a massive scam for the elite to control the world's population. Britain is certainly losing its sovereignty and democracy and most of our laws are being made in Brussels, by foreign nations. Did anyone ask us?
Britain is changing fast from what millions of people died for during the last world war and the future will be very different to how it has been over the last 50 years.
One can only imagine how it will be in 30 years time. Anything that threatens our carbon footprint will have to be limited. Air travel, probably only for business and the wealthy elite, not for holidays to Spain. Travel around the country only by train but with different window views than today, more likely the satellite villages will be close proximity to the railway lines to ferry people to their places of work. Everybody who is able to will be in work, mostly menial stuff producing high tech gadgets rather than cars and the like. Wages will be low and those below the selected few will become known as the poor working class.
For those with children who are interested in how their futures will pan out, perhaps ask the politicians, they must know what's going on. Ask the local councillors to see the plans for Plymouth over the next few years, they signed up to Agenda 21 so they should really know too, would be interesting to hear their comments.
Am I a scientist or an expert on Global Warming? No, but having retired and with time on my hands, I've been a bit nosey to study what seems to be going on in real time. The potholes are still there, not just in Plymouth but all over Britain!

Have a gander at the link below which also has further links. The Americans are getting very twitchy about how Agenda 21 and the involvement with ICLEI is affecting them.
There are parallels with with depopulation which seems to be getting a helping hand from some NHS hospitals with nobody being held to account. Everything going on around us stinks, and that is a fact.

“@lashius
ICLEI are there to implement Agenda 21, and a document called 'Growing Smart Legislative Guidebook:Model Statutes for Planning and the management of change', took seven years to complete, and a full nine years to arrive at the final version.
It contains sample ordinances, rules, regulations and statutes to be incorporated into the general plans of every government.
There are three elements: Economy,Ecology, and Social Equity.
Economic collapse creates a chain of events, but on the county/city level there's a big reduction in revenue for maintenance of services. Loss of services to outlying areas eg:roads not being maintained, local hospitals closing down, added to the increased cost of petrol (manipulated) and the higher cost of energy (manipulated) to heat larger houses and you have more pressure to leave rural and outlying areas.
Also, ecologically motivated regulation makes rural development prohibitive. Stream/river/trees protection, species protection (growing list) woodland protection, farmers paid not for growing food but putting windmills on their land.
Add this to pressure from ICLEI guidelines to reduce our energy usage to pre-1985 levels, and increased regulations on businesses means loss of jobs and more dependance on other countries for goods.
As the population grows, more people will be dependant on the government for benefits.
Poverty and clashes of cultures induce crime and violence, the only thing being built in low income areas will be low income housing (with redevelopment funds). These areas become 'dumping grounds' for the populations' waste.
Propaganda infuses our culture with messages that there are a few winners and many losers; that we are killing the earth and time is running out. Individual freedom of speech is selfish and injures others, speaking your mind becomes almost a crime. More activity will be identified as 'crime', obesity, smoking, drinking when you have a drinking problem, not recycling your rubbish properly, driving when you could walk/ride a bike, these messages shame and pressure you, are you indeed 'out of touch'? Confidence drops, your ability to reason clearly is impaired.
All these things are happening now and have been for years but it's stepped up a gear now.”

“@Lashius _you said: 'Yes climate change over time is a natural occurrence....however the RAPID climate change we have seen over the last few century's is a man made event that must be put a stop to.'
That's a statement that's as iffy as any you question. There is no real evidence of the recent rapid climate change being man-made. There aren't many truly independent scientists around who are saying what you state. Those that do have hidden agendas as do the ones who don't. I speak of academics who know they will get funding for siding with the climate change theory and the oil/gas companies who pay scientists to argue the opposite. In the meantime, we wait to see the evidence unfold.
Money should be made available to react to climate change, whatever the cause, by considering mitigating the effects on those most at risk around the world.
A rapid thaw towards the end of a natural climate cycle is just that, natural. If you don't believe me, switch off your freezer and watch it defrost. It'll get very quick towards the end of the thaw.”

Good post.
Politicians drive big cars, sometimes to cover a few hundred yards and last time I saw it, our Lord Mayor is driven around in a big black limo.
Now, if our leaders thought we were in serious need of carbon reduction, they are certainly not leading by example.
Parallel to Agenda 21 is the New World Order where the wealthy elite and the political classes will do whatever they like while the rest of us will pay the price.
Global warming....it rained all last summer and now in the middle of March its freezing. I go to the coast often and apart from when it's blowing a gale, the tide always comes up to where I expected it to.
CO2 and warmer weather is good for plants which means our food should grow better. However, there have been plenty of natural disasters which stands up you argument, floods, fires and failed crops due to adverse weather. The world seems split on whether its global warming or natural climate change. All I know is that a few people are getting very rich while most of us are getting a lot poorer.”

re the global warming argument
Global sea level rose about 17 centimeters (6.7 inches) in the last century. The rate in the last decade, however, is nearly double that of the last century.4
All three major global surface temperature reconstructions show that Earth has warmed since 1880.5 Most of this warming has occurred since the 1970s, with the 20 warmest years having occurred since 1981 and with all 10 of the warmest years occurring in the past 12 years.6 Even though the 2000s witnessed a solar output decline resulting in an unusually deep solar minimum in 2007-2009, surface temperatures continue to increase.7
The oceans have absorbed much of this increased heat, with the top 700 meters (about 2,300 feet) of ocean showing warming of 0.302 degrees Fahrenheit since 1969.8
The Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets have decreased in mass. Data from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment show Greenland lost 150 to 250 cubic kilometers (36 to 60 cubic miles) of ice per year between 2002 and 2006, while Antarctica lost about 152 cubic kilometers (36 cubic miles) of ice between 2002 and 2005.
Both the extent and thickness of Arctic sea ice has declined rapidly over the last several decades.
Glaciers are retreating almost everywhere around the world — including in the Alps, Himalayas, Andes, Rockies, Alaska and Africa.
The number of record high temperature events in the United States has been increasing, while the number of record low temperature events has been decreasing, since 1950. The U.S. has also witnessed increasing numbers of intense rainfall events.11
Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the acidity of surface ocean waters has increased by about 30 percent.12,13 This increase is the result of humans emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and hence more being absorbed into the oceans. The amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the upper layer of the oceans is increasing by about 2 billion tons per year.14,15
Yes climate change over timeis a natural occurrence....however the RAPID climate change we have seen over the last few century's is a man made event that must be put a stop to.
As for your daily mail level rant about the eu.....no Cassie Brussels do not make our laws for us, there are certain guidelines all eu countries have to follow yes, however to say they `make our laws` is a gross exaggeration worthy of the tabloids.
This is why people dont take you seriously.”

The interesting bit is an Adobe doc. Click on this at the bottom of the page: "Read the latest Strategic Plan"
It reads like a communist propaganda leaflet.
