HUNDREDS of homes were affected by a power cut in Plymstock yesterday morning.

Western Power Distribution said initially 1,600 homes were without power from around 11am but more than half had connections restored by 11.45am.

All but two connections were restored by 3.20pm and the two homes concerned were given power supplies through generators.

The problem is believed to have been caused by a third party involving an underground cable.

A spokeswoman said: "There is an underground cable fault that affected around 1,600 homes caused by third party damage. We've now managed to reconnect all the supplies but two houses are using generators.

"We will continue to work on the matter until the connection is fully restored."
