Praise for firefighters' actions during recent floods
THE High Sheriff of Devon has praised firefighters and control room staff for their response to the floods.
Robin Barlow joined chief fire officer Lee Howell on a tour of Devon Fire and Rescue Service’s headquarters in Exeter.
The visit on Christmas Eve followed a weekend of severe weather. Fire crews in the two counties rescued 74 people and pumped water from 61 properties over five days.
Mr Barlow said: “Having seen the impact the flooding had on the people of Devon, I wanted to express my sincere thanks to all emergency services and other organisations involved.”

“Its a shame that the sheriff forgot to mention those brave people of the Police, ambulance service, inshore lifeboat teams who also were helping out with the floods.”

“Neither did I soultoucher.
Also agree with Doctor T they do amazing and often thankless jobs in conditions that would have most of us scurrying home to be nice and warm”
