NEW undercover quarters for the local produce market in Kernow Mill car park at Trerulefoot have been officially opened.

The project received a £3,000 taxpayer funded grant towards a marquee to enable local producers to have somewhere to sell their goods in winter.

Sheryll Murray, the Conservative MP for South East Cornwall, was there to mark the event.

She said: "This facility will give new opportunities to very small businesses to allow them to sell their goods all year round."

Celwyn Richardson, manager of the market, said: "The market has been trading for more than a year and last winter the stall holders demonstrated their hardiness by turning up week in and week out in all weather.

"However, to improve our facilities, we decided to investigate the purchase of an on site marquee."

Linda Emmett, East Cornwall Local Action Group manager, said: "We hope the marquee will assist with making the market co-operative viable in the long term, offering the opportunity of a new route to market for many more local producers."
