PROSPECTIVE foster parents are being invited to a series of information events.

Devon County Council is continuing its drive to recruit more carers for the 700 children it has in care.

Councillor Andrea Davis said: "There is always a demand for good foster carers in Devon to provide safe and caring homes for children and young people right through from birth to adulthood. It is vital that we help give children the best possible start in life and foster carers play an essential role in looking after some of Devon's most vulnerable children."

A session will take place on Monday, March 25, at The Watermark in Erme Court, Ivybridge.

“A couple were turned down as foster parents last year, and the child given to a gay couple instead, what was that all about then?”

“Just as long as you don't claim Housing Benefit - the new 'bedroom tax' will apply to foster carers, so you will be penalised for having the space available to foster children in the first place. I foresee quite a few emergency foster places disappearing... Typical short-sighted Government.”
