Pupils bouncing with energy thanks to visit from Radiers
CHILDREN at Drake Primary School enjoyed a day with players from Plymouth Raiders as part of a Hoops 4 Health scheme.
The Raiders deliver the programme to 36 primary schools in the area, helping children from years 5, 6 and 7 to learn more about healthy lifestyles.
Children who take part in the scheme, which is funded by Plymouth City Council, also receive free basketball tuition.
In the Spring, teams from schools across the city will compete to represent Plymouth at the national Hoops 4 Health championships.

Drake Primary School in Keyham was last year's winner and travelled to Birmingham to take part. The Hoops 4 Health match took place on the same day as the Premier Basketball League finals, giving the children an audience of 7,000 for their game.
Drake has been working with the Raiders for five years. A new project is planned for 2013, with players coming in to classrooms to boost numeracy and literacy.
Getting down on the children's level physically may be a bit of challenge for some of the team, whose tallest player Liam Potter is 7ft.
The scheme co-ordinator, Nickie Tombs, said "The players love being able to give something back by going into schools. They are lovely guys who make great models. Feedback from the schools is really positive too".
The Raiders, who are riding high in the British Basketball League, have also set up two academies in the city. These are based at Plymouth College and the Discovery Academy, with the aim of developing the basketball stars of the future.
