A PRIMARY school enjoyed a different type of education last week as the school left the rigours of Maths and English behind and enjoyed golf, yoga, basketball and squash instead.

Leigham Primary School put on its sixth annual Healthy Lifestyle week where children were encouraged to focus on the health of their bodies and minds – and try new foods and sporting activities.

Lisa Moulding, a Healthy Lifestyles organiser, viewed the week as a success.

"The children really enjoyed it.

"This week gave them a taster of some great sports and activities that they wouldn't usually try and it was great to see them so excited."

Four hundred children, including those in the nursery school, were also given the chance to try exotic fruits and to work up an appetite dancing on electronic dance mats.

Ms Moulding said the school hoped to make a difference by reaching children at a young age.

"It is important to teach them about healthy living early on, so that it can become part of their daily life," she said.

“If kids and teens trained up properly in their childhood, they can learn Yoga and can be benefited in their old age also.
