OF THE nine matches played in the Handicap Cup, only two teams managed to overcome their handicap.
Inter City C met Crafthole C (+13) and won by 6-2, with each of the City team of Martin Joy, Steve Smith and Paul Lambert winning two sets.
Woodland Fort E ( Mike Wakley 3 ) also conceded 10 points and defeated Woolwell O 6-2.

The closest match was at Siblyback, who entertained Astor H (+23).
With Miles Noel -Johnson winning his three singles, Siblyback led 5-4 .
However, Siblyback then lost both doubles sets by the narrowest of margins.
For Astor, Bob Steele and Dave Green beat Noel -Johnson and Ian Oxenham 8-25, 21-25 (52-50) and then Green and Ted Morrish won the tie for Astor in defeating Noel -Johnson and Colin Jago 12-25, 16-25 (51-50).
Astor C at 2-2, fell away against Woodland Fort G (+21) losing 6-2.
Woolwell H never got close to making up their handicap as Woolwell K (+20) won 6-0.
Ivybridge (+15) soon went 5-0 up at Woolwell I before a partial recovery from Woolwell saw them win the next three sets .
Ivybridge secured victory when Chris Collings beat Laurie Harrison without needing his 15 points start, by 25-21, 25-20 (65-41).
With Andy Helliwell scoring a maximum, Woolwell M (+13) led Woodland Fort C 5-4.
Helliwell, with Jacob Squires, won the vital sixth set 25-21, 24-25 (62-46) against Barrie Oliver and Graham Pearson.
Two Division One teams met, with Woolwell B unable to overcome a 10-point concession to Woolwell E.
Nat Sheehean and Lisa Radford won all the six sets for Woolwell E in their 6-2 victory.
Another derby match resulted in Astor F (+10 ) beating Astor E 6-2, with two each from Steve Harvey, Gerry Elliott and Nick May.
In Division Four league matches, Molyneux Associates ( Mike Hoskin 3 ) defeated Woodland Fort H 7-3 and maximums from Mike Wakley and Norman Hall meant a 8-2 win for Woodland Fort E against Inter City E.
In the Handicap pairs event, Les Cole and Tony Powlesland beat John Sherlock and Steve Garlick 3-2 and Colin Mitchell and Chris May defeated Chris Collings and Alan Spencer, also 3-2.
BREWIN DOLPHIN MANNAMEAD WINTER TENNIS LEAGUE by David Williams
IN THE mixed doubles Ricky Palmer and Nikki Aitken achieved a creditable win over Richard Avent and Joy Pellow.
This was the first defeat for Avent, either with Jenny Snell or new partner Pellow.
Palmer and Aitken played well, particularly in the first two sets and enjoyed a 3-1 lead in the third set, before winning 6-3, 6-5, 3-6.
Dudley Tolkien and Janet Butler surprised Simon Dusting and Hannah Odam by winning the first set, but Dusting and Odam came back strongly to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
In the Ladies' Division B, Jane Poon and Jane Trahair had their best win of the season as they became the first pair to beat the leaders, Liz Gill and sub Marian Phillips.
In a two hour match Poon and Trahair hung on in each set to win 6-4, 6-5, 6-5.
At the other end of the division, Debbie Wilson and Nancy Northfield won for the third time defeating Michele Pooley and Suzudo Reed 6-3, 5-6 (3-7), 6-2.
However Wilson and Northfield found the more experienced Chris Bunney and Jill Cansfield too good, losing 6-2, 6-1, 6-3.
Linda Galpin and Libby Allman turned in a consistent performance to beat Barbara Jensen and Debbie Grieve 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.
Debbie Bradbury and Tania Belcher in Division A matched opponents Michelle Cooke and Liz Morley shot for shot in the second set of their match, but Cooke and Morley were the better pair in the other sets, winning 6-1, 6-5, 6-1.
Luisa Warring and Lyn Helliwell were given one of their toughest matches before defeating Viv Sargeant and Nancy O'Connor 6-2, 6-4, 2-6.
Nikki Aitken and Pat Hexter did well to complete a straight sets win over Janet Butler and Linda Haston 6-4, 6-3, 6-5.
In the match between two of the top Division A men's doubles pairs, the powerful and consistent serving of Simon Prout and Matt Green made the difference in a 6-5, 6-4, 6-4 win over Neil Hunt and Simon Yeo.
Steve Kingston and Adam Mudford were full value for their win over Harry Bird and sub Declan O'Connell 6-0, 6-0, 6-1.
Another pair of worthy winners were Phil Ruse and sub Luke Wakely, winning 6-0, 6-4, 6-0 against Ashley Reburn and Sam Arkle.
Yuen Sui and Declan O'Connell failed to build on their great Division B win over Ron Cole and Rob Thomas last week, as despite two close sets the pair lost 6-1, 6-5, 6-5 to Jamie Stephenson and Kevin Thomas.
By contrast, Cole and Thomas put themselves back into a challenging position at the top, with a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win over Bernard Lien and Dave Pemberton, despite trailing 2-0 in all three sets.
Pete Ireland and Jon Shackel are finding sets difficult to win, with their latest defeat by Chris Shorter and Phil Ticehurst 6-3, 6-5, 6-2.
Dave Graham and Lester Ellicott won only their second Division C match in beating higher placed opponents Mike Foote and Gary Eato 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.
